In this course you will look at both the theory and practice of the use of educational technologies (EdTech) in language teaching and training. The course will introduce you to a wide variety of technologies, tools and approaches from both a theoretical perspective and a practical angle, with hands-on sessions focussing on EdTech materials design and delivery. By participating in the course you will learn where technology fits into the language learning process, and apply the new skills and experiences you have gained to your own particular work context.

Course content
This course will raise your awareness of the possibilities, challenges and potential of digital technologies. You will be introduced to a wide range of software applicable in language teaching and learning and look at how to create and work effectively with web pages and web platforms.

Timetable
This course consists of 50 hours of tuition, delivered between 09:00 and 15:30, Monday - Friday. You will also take part in cross-curricular workshops on a variety of topics, and each course includes a free evening and weekend programme of social and cultural activities and trips.

Time will be built into the course for reflection and for you to consider how to adapt ideas from the course to your classroom in your own professional contexts.

Meet a tutor: Russell Stannard
Russell spent 11 years in Spain as Director of Studies of International House Seville and a teacher trainer for the Spanish government. He had previously worked as an English teacher in Greece for 2 years.
He holds the CELTA, DELTA and an MSc in Multimedia Computing from the University of Westminster. He worked as a Principal Teaching Fellow in Educational Technology at the University of Westminster before moving to Warwick University.
In 2007 he founded the website TeacherTrainingVideos.com and was awarded the British Council 'Technology' ELTons award, the The Times Higher Education 'Outstanding Technology' award and the University of Westminster 'Excellence in Teaching and Learning' award.
Russell is now a freelance consultant. His YouTube channel where he creates videos to help language teachers incorporate technology in their teaching and learning has over 80,000 subscribers. His consultancy roles include work with King's College, University of London, the Kwazulu University in South Africa, Brugg University in Switzerland and Stirling University in Scotland. He is a Techsmith Camtasia recommended trainer and a Movavi educational ambassador.
