Build an understanding of the key principles that underpin the integration of technology into teaching and learning
 
Learn to use the key technologies that can really impact teaching and learning, with a focus on those tools that cover a wide range of contexts
 
Explore the emerging AI tools that are directly impacting the world of language learning, including ChatGPT
 
Learn about alternative ways to assess your students both formatively and summatively, particularly significant in the light of ChatGPT
 
Consider some of the challenges that teachers might face in introducing technology into their language provision, both inside and outside the classroom
 
Look at the role that independent learning plays in online/blended learning, with a special emphasis on technologies that can support students' autonomous learning and provide them with more agency

Please note that you do not need to be an advanced user of technology to do this course. It is a course for teachers who may make some use of technology but need to connect it all together by building their understanding of the core principles underpinning its use and for teachers who use technology but not necessarily in any systematic or organised way.

You will also develop your technical skills in a number of key areas, including a comprehensive look at many of the emerging AI tools. Tools that increase collaboration, support assessment and develop student agency are also covered.

Meet a Course Tutor: Russell Stannard

Russell Stannard - NILE

Russell spent 11 years in Spain as Director of Studies of International House Seville and a teacher trainer for the Spanish government. He had previously worked as an English teacher in Greece for 2 years. 

He holds the CELTA, DELTA and an MSc in Multimedia Computing from the University of Westminster. He worked as a Principal Teaching Fellow in Educational Technology at the University of Westminster before moving to Warwick University. 

In 2007 he founded the website TeacherTrainingVideos.com and was awarded the British Council 'Technology' ELTons award, the The Times Higher Education 'Outstanding Technology' award and the University of Westminster 'Excellence in Teaching and Learning' award. 

Russell is now a freelance consultant. His YouTube channel where he creates videos to help language teachers incorporate technology in their teaching and learning has over 80,000 subscribers. His consultancy roles include work with King's College, University of London, the Kwazulu University in South Africa, Brugg University in Switzerland and Stirling University in Scotland. He is a Techsmith Camtasia recommended trainer and a Movavi educational ambassador.
