Welcome to NILE!

NILE has provided language improvement or General English courses for groups of upper-secondary/high school students for over 20 years.

These courses are open to students aged 16 or over, and take place between September and May at our course centre in Norwich. The curriculum is developed according to the sending school’s wishes and requirements, and can be taught by NILE trainers or the group’s own teachers.

All NILE staff working with under-18s are safeguarding trained and are subject to a criminal record check (DBS).

Accommodation is provided with homestay hosts carefully selected by our two dedicated Accommodation Officers. Under-18s are placed in households where all adults are DBS checked and these houses are a short walk or bus journey from NILE. Hosts will advise their guests on how to reach the NILE centre on their first day, after which participants will make their own way.

Outside school hours NILE organises an extensive social and cultural programme developed according to the interests of the participants. The social and cultural programme typically consists of a weekend excursion trip, a guided walking tour of Norwich, and activities such as bowling, laser tag etc. All these events are risk-assessed and accompanied by our Social Programme Team.

Course participants are further supported by a full-time Head of Student Services, and Student Welfare Manager who goes through emergency procedures on Day 1 of the course.

NILE is committed to safeguarding and promoting the health, safety and welfare of all of its students and staff, whatever their gender (including gender reassignment), sexual orientation, marital or civil partnership status, religious belief or political opinion, race, including colour, nationality, ethnicity, national origins, disability or age.

The responsibility for managing safe working practices for the protection of students and staff lies with NILE’s Safeguarding Team.

The Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP) and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) are trained to Safeguarding Level 3 and in Safer Recruitment. The DSP & DSL are supported by NILE’s Director who is trained to Level 2 and in Safer Recruitment. They are supported by the Registrar and the Accommodation Team who are all Level 2 trained. All other contracted permanent staff are trained to Level 1. Safeguarding training is refreshed every 2-3 years in order to keep knowledge and skills up to date.

NILE’s safeguarding policy, anti-bullying policy and inclusivity policy are available to download.
