NILE and the University of Chichester are proud to announce that the 2024 full scholarship on the NILE MA in Professional Development for Language Education (MAPDLE), validated by the University of Chichester, is awarded to Asmaa Othman.

As in previous years, a very high standard of applications for the scholarship was received. What impressed the award committee about Asmaa’s application was her proactivity in education both within Egypt and internationally. She demonstrates a clear commitment to education development in Egypt with a focus on supporting inclusion and diversity. In her current roles, Asmaa works with undergraduate students in Egypt, as well as being a Cambridge Assessment specialist and an international remote teacher for the British Council’s “English without Borders” project.

Upon receiveing the news, Asmaa said:

Words can't express how thrilled I am to be named the winner of the Erica Dirou Scholarship this year! This incredible opportunity represents a dream come true for me, and it honestly feels like a huge turning point in my teaching career. The NILE MA programme will definitely level up my skills and knowledge, thus giving me the opportunity to make a real difference for my students in Egypt.

A massive thank you to NILE and the University of Chichester! Your support and confidence in my ability to succeed mean the world to me. I can't wait to dive in and learn everything I can, and I am eager to honour the values and legacy of Erica Dirou through my work.

The Erica Dirou scholarship is awarded each calendar year to an English Language Teacher or Teacher Trainer working in Egypt, in memory of our outstanding alumna Erica Dirou (pictured above, private photo).
