Tim Phillips worked for over 30 years with the British Council in English language education as a teacher, teacher educator and programme manager. From 2012 to 2022, as head of teacher development in British Council English programmes, he coordinated global development of the British Council’s CPD framework for English language teachers and online and face-to-face teacher development resources to support programmes with ministries of education in countries in all continents.
He has a Master's in TEFL from Reading University and a Diploma in TEFL from Brighton University. As a teacher and teacher educator he worked in Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, North Macedonia and Palestine. He has edited and contributed to publications on drama and literature in ELT and English language teacher development, most recently a research study into attitudes of English language teachers accessing open educational resources, published in the Teacher Training Journal Winter 2021. He was chair of AQUEDUTO from 2017 to 2021 and an advisory board member of the English Language Teaching Journal from 2018 to 2022. Currently he is a freelance consultant in English language education, living in Manchester. In 2022 he was awarded an MBE for services to international English language education.
