James Thomas NILE

James Thomas holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from Macquarie University (Sydney) and has over 35 years of experience in English language education. He worked at Masaryk University for 20 years, including eight as Head of English Language Teacher Training. Since 2001, he has collaborated extensively with NILE and the British Council, delivering teacher training courses to school teachers and university lecturers in ESP and EMI across Europe, Asia, and Central Asia. During four years in Uzbekistan, he trained teachers through NILE and served as Visiting Professor at Webster University in Tashkent.

James has taught ICT for ELT and trained teachers to develop blended learning courses. He designed VersaText, an online resource included in NILE’s suite of tools and widely used by teachers to create language lessons from texts. The accompanying training materials are among his many books and articles, which focus on corpus-based approaches to vocabulary study. He also co-authored an ELTons-winning publication and has presented his approaches and resources at numerous international conferences and workshops.

James runs Versatile Publisher, which offers a wide range of language teaching books, courses and resources.
